Dan “DStu” Stuart may not always be the loudest voice in the room, but those who know him see a quiet powerhouse—an institutional expert who has become a key figure in Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) and now American Action Fund (AAF). Known for his deep policy knowledge and grassroots mobilization skills, DStu has earned a reputation as a relentless advocate for liberty, unafraid to take on entrenched politicians.
Growing up in Illinois, DStu witnessed firsthand the creeping influence of socialist ideologies from Chicago and higher academia. This, he says, lit a fire under him to fight for personal freedom and limited government. His activism began early, and by 2017, while attending Illinois State University, DStu founded his YAL chapter to challenge restrictive free speech policies on campus. His passion for liberty was ignited, and he quickly gained momentum.
DStu’s rise within YAL was swift. In November 2018, he became a Field Coordinator (now Deputy Regional Director), a role that saw him overseeing grassroots campaigns aimed at securing real political change. His most significant early achievement came in 2020, when he served as a senior election director for Make Liberty Win (MLW), managing door-knocking teams in Texas, Missouri, and New Hampshire. Under his leadership, MLW played a pivotal role in flipping the New Hampshire State House—a major victory for advocates of limited government.

By 2021, DStu had taken on an even bigger challenge, overseeing the development of YAL’s legislative program during its pilot year. The results were nothing short of impressive: his work led to the passage of Constitutional Carry in Texas and School Choice in Missouri. Since then, his impact has only grown.
Today, he serves as the Southeast Manager for American Action Fund. In this role, he oversees grassroots efforts and policy initiatives across the Southeastern United States, driving forward the organization’s mission of promoting individual liberty and limited government. He has been instrumental in passing Constitutional Carry legislation in six states, advancing school choice in five states, and helping secure nine medical freedom bills in New Hampshire.
DStu’s pitbull-like determination has made him a force to be reckoned with in the world of liberty activism. He remains focused on mobilizing grassroots efforts and pushing for policies that promote freedom and personal responsibility across the country.
