Don’t You Dare Say That!

By AAF | Sep 5, 2024

Government universities are a breeding ground for the left-wing ideologies that poison our culture. They propagate droves of mindless soldiers who deploy inconspicuously throughout the world, intent on advancing their ideology in all facets of government, life, and business. This strategy has been effective, evidenced by the countless Americans abandoning the principles this nation was founded on in favor of blatant Marxism and centralized government power.

Chief among the weapons in the liberal army is the tried and true tactic of silencing the opposition. As reported in a recent email from Young Americans for Liberty:

Just last week, YAL’s local chapter was removed from Kennesaw State University’s campus by a member of the administration who told them, “We really don’t have the space to host folks like you on campus!”

Across the country, colleges and universities are getting more and more brazen about curtailing students’ fundamental rights.

To justify their censorship, administrators cite obscure case law that allows the government to stop Free Speech activity with “time, place, and manner restrictions.”

They don’t seem to grasp the irony…

One way to fight the entrenched bureaucracy’s attempt to silence free thinkers is by demanding lawmakers pass legislation outlawing censorship on college campuses. American Action Fund and its Hazlitt Coalition have led the charge for these bills across the country, passing free speech protections in Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, and North Dakota.

However, college campuses aren’t the only places where infringements on the right to speak freely are rampant. Anyone who stays informed is aware that Meta CEO and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg recently penned a letter to Congress admitting he and his company bowed to the Biden Administration and censored posts about COVID-19 deemed false by the government.

One may also recall when Elon Musk purchased Twitter in late 2022 and exposed that the platform suppressed posts – such as ones about the Biden Laptop story – and complied with the FBI to limit conservative speech. Censorship runs deep in American culture today, and it poses a significant threat to the republic. That’s why it’s so encouraging when an elected official stands for liberty and defends the right to speak freely.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) recently filed the Standing to Challenge Government Censorship Act, prohibiting federal employees and contractors from using their positions to influence social media companies to censor speech.

“Americans are a free people, and we do not take infringements upon our liberties lightly. Our Founding Fathers enshrined the First Amendment to protect our God-given right to free expression, recognizing its fundamental importance to a free society,” said Dr. Paul. “With the Standing to Challenge Government Censorship Act, we will strip away the barriers preventing judicial review of coercive government tactics that silence dissenting voices and ensure that no government official or contractor can undermine the First Amendment rights of Americans. We must confront and dismantle this censorship apparatus to protect our fundamental right to free speech.”
