GA Speaker Backtracks as Arrested Senator Remains Steadfast

By AAF | Jan 21, 2025

After a viral video of Sen. Colton Moore being tossed to the ground and arrested made worldwide news and American Action Fund unleashed the power of the grassroots, Georgia Speaker of the House  Jon Burns buckled by lifting his ban prohibiting Senator Colton Moore from accessing the floor of the Georgia House of Representatives.

As we wrote on Thursday January 16th, Sen. Colton Moore gave an impassioned speech about the corruption of former Speaker David Ralston last year which upset the new, current Speaker, Jon Burns. Burns retaliated by banning Moore from the House floor prohibiting him from attending the annual Georgia State of the State address in the State House. Moore claims he had a constitutional obligation to attend the joint session of the Legislature regardless of Burns’ ban.

When Sen. Moore tried to enter the chamber to assert his rights, he was tossed to the ground and arrested. This caused a nationwide backlash from conservatives coast-to-coast, American Action Fund and even the Georgia GOP.

When some activists posted bail for Sen. Moore, he emerged from the same jail that held Donald Trump and remained defiant in the face of Burns’ tyranny stating, “They’ll have to put a bullet in my head to ever stop me.”

Rather than allowing Sen. Moore to fight alone, American Action Fund sprung into action activating patriots throughout Georgia who called contacted Speaker Burns demanding he apologize!

As former U.S. Senate Republican Minority Leader Everett Dirksen said, “When I feel the heat, I see the light.” Which is exactly what happened.

After overwhelming pressure from the grassroots, Speakers Burns realized he picked a fight with someone that has a lot of friends! Noticing he stepped in it big time, Speaker Burns tucked tail as highlighted in WSB Atlanta reporting quoting Burns:

“…our Chamber to resume business as normal—with all members of the General Assembly present—for any future joint sessions with or without the apology.”

That’s right. Not only is Sen. Moore out of jail but Speaker Jon Burns took a knee because of massive pressure from liberty lovers all over Georgia engaged by American Action Fund.

What could have been solved by the Speaker doing the right thing and not trying to block a duly elected senator from a joint session, ended up blowing up in the Speaker Burns’ face.

Which is a lesson to politicians everywhere. If you are on the wrong side of liberty or liberty champions, there is a LARGE political price to pay for crossing liberty activists and their legislative champions.
