State Rep. Savannah Maddox Blasts Gun Control in Fox Interview

By AAF | Sep 12, 2024

Kentucky State Representative Savannah Maddox blasted calls for gun control in an interview with Bode Brooks on Fox 56.

Representative Maddox, a member of American Action Fund’s Liberty Coalition, made clear her unwavering support for Second Amendment Rights.

Maddox was responding to calls to pass a “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation Law after a shooter opened fire on I-75 in Kentucky. The manhunt for the shooter is still in progress in Daniel Boone National Forest.

Moms Demand Action and anti-gun lawmakers promptly took to politicizing the shooting in an effort to pass restrictive and unconstitutional gun control laws in Kentucky.

Maddox called out her colleagues for attacking gun owners and politicizing the tragedy, stating, “It is a function of not allowing for due process, so I’m going to continue to oppose [“Red Flag” Gun Confiscation], and I do have concerns about reactionary politicization on behalf of my colleagues to an incident of this nature.”

Maddox went on to debunk the myth that gun control does anything to increase safety, and further concluded that it would still not supersede constitutional rights.

“We know that [with] things like waiting periods, in addition to creating an additional barrier for law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights, there is no evidence that they reduce crime or suicides or anything of that nature. So the evidence is not there, but even if it were, we have to uphold the Constitution,” Maddox concluded.

A “Red Flag” bill failed to move in the previous legislative session. However, the gun grabbing red coats will never stand down in their efforts to undermine the Second Amendment and confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens.

That is why American Action Fund will continue to work with pro-gun lawmakers in our Liberty Coalition, like Representative Maddox, to stand in the way of gun control in the Bluegrass State, and around the country.
