For Immediate Release:
Columbus, OH – RINO Republicans joined with Democrats last Wednesday evening to kill the Second Amendment Preservation Act.
The Second Amendment Preservation Act, or SAPA as it is commonly called, would have protected Ohio gun owners by prohibiting Ohio law enforcement agencies from enforcing unconstitutional gun control laws, rules, and regulations adopted by the federal government.
This comes at a time when public distrust of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE or ATF) is at an all time high. Congressman Eric Burlison and others have even filed legislation to abolish the ATF in response to the bureau’s practice of playing fast and loose with its interpretation of federal gun law.
A Second Amendment Preservation Act bill, House Bill 51, passed out of committee in 2023, but Blue 22 House Speaker Jason Stephens, who was elected to his position by a coalition of liberal Republicans and Democrats, never called it to the floor for a vote.
The bill was set to die, but with just days left in the current session Representative Jennifer Gross, a member of American Action Fund’s Hazlitt Coalition, resurrected the bill by offering the Second Amendment Preservation Act as an amendment to another firearms bill that was scheduled to come to the floor for a vote.
“I offered the amendment because my constituents sent me to Columbus to fight for their rights,” said Rep. Jennifer Gross. “They are sick of federal overreach, so we are fighting back!”
Speaker Stephens and his liberal cadre did all they could to keep the amendment from being heard. Finally, late into the evening, they played their last dirty trick, effectively killing the amendment by voting to “lay it on the table.”
While this pro-gun amendment was shot down, Representative Gross’s bold action revealed which of her colleagues have the guts to fight for liberty and which ones cower to the gun control lobby.
Those who voted “yes” to lay the amendment on the table are now on the record opposing Second Amendment protections. Those who voted “no” demonstrated their commitment to defending the Second Amendment. Representative Gross, through her courageous actions to force this vote, has proven herself once again to be a true champion for the Second Amendment.
