The FBI and CDC Are Hiding the Truth About Gun Ownership

By AAF | Sep 12, 2024

John R. Lott Jr., a respected economist and author known for his research on gun control, recently published compelling data in The Federalist supporting the argument that more guns lead to less crime. Lott’s work consistently challenges mainstream narratives around gun control, and this latest data is no exception.

His research shows a clear correlation between higher rates of gun ownership and lower crime rates, debunking the common myth that more guns inevitably lead to more violence.

Critics often claim that Lott’s conclusions are skewed or ignore certain factors. However, his data comes from publicly available crime statistics, making it both transparent and verifiable.

During his former work at the Department of Justice, Lott discovered that a multitude of defensive gun use cases were missed, or even intentionally omitted, by both the CDC and the FBI. He further alleges that once brought to their attention, no action was taken to correct the poorly compiled data.

In fact, Lott concludes in his article:

“The FBI dataset is missing so many defensive gun uses that it’s hard to believe it isn’t intentional and the fact that they never correct mistakes that are brought to their attention is even more damning. All the while, the news media unquestioningly reports the FBI’s numbers, actively distorting the truth regarding the pivotal rule responsible gun owners have played in preventing crime and limiting casualties during mass public shootings.”

It’s essential to recognize that much of the opposition to Lott’s findings comes from ideological biases rather than objective analysis of the data. Many gun control advocates focus on isolated incidents rather than looking at broader crime trends. Lott’s data consistently shows that law-abiding citizens who carry firearms contribute to deterring crime, making communities safer.

In a time when emotional appeals often dominate the gun control debate, Lott’s fact-driven approach is refreshing. His data reinforces that individual rights, including the right to bear arms, are essential to preserving freedom and safety.

Simply put, more guns in the hands of responsible citizens lead to less crime.
