Governor Ron DeSantis SLAMS Florida GOP Over Property Taxes

By Nate Stidd | Apr 15, 2025

Florida may soon take a bold and unprecedented step to upend its tax system. Governor Ron DeSantis has proposed a constitutional amendment for the 2026 ballot that would eliminate property taxes entirely. If approved, it would be nothing short of revolutionary—a fundamental rethinking of the relationship between citizens and government.

For decades, Floridians, like many Americans, have been forced to pay for the “privilege” of living in their own homes. Property taxes remain a constant reminder that ownership is conditional. Miss a payment, and the state can seize what’s yours.
DeSantis captured this frustration, saying, “You have to just keep writing a check to the government just for the privilege of using your own property. That’s not the way good tax policy should be.”

Predictably, the Republican Establishment attempted to silence the Governor’s concerns. House Speaker Daniel Perez offered up a watered-down sales tax cut as a distraction, hoping voters might settle for scraps. Senator Ben Albritton chimed in with dire warnings about future budget shortfalls. A spineless disposition yet again from the Republican-led Legislature.

Florida’s state government runs on a massive bloated budget, built entirely on the backs of hardworking taxpayers. With every property tax bill, Floridians are forced to buy their right to stay in homes they already own—again and again, year after year. It’s a modern form of indentured servitude, where the fruits of one’s labor are never truly secure. Homeownership has become a mechanism for endless government revenue, and unchecked fiscal corruption.

The ongoing fight for liberty in Florida continues to expose the festering SWAMP that seems to be infecting the Sunshine State and spreading like an aggressive cancer, desperate to keep it’s stranglehold on Floridian’s rights in favor of career politician’s paychecks. American Action Fund is already launching a flurry of mobilization efforts to urge the Legislature to follow through on the Governor’s claims, and wont stop until Floridians can breathe a sigh of relief. We’ve already sent thousands of emails and have even more in the works to help the Governor’s efforts.

There is light at the end of this orwellian tunnel, and we’re determined to reach it. Stay tuned.
