Right to Work Killed in New Hampshire House of Representatives

By AAF | Feb 14, 2025

Many held out hope that New Hampshire would be the first state in New England to protect the right to work without being forced to join a leftist union. However, the New Hampshire House of Representatives crushed those hopes with 25 Republicans joining all the Democrats to kill the Right to Work bill.

Right to Work House Bill 238, sponsored by Liberty Legislator Daniel Popovici-Muller, would have prohibited the all-too-common practice of forcing workers to join a union in order for them to get or keep a job. Not only would this bill have protected workers’ freedoms, but it would have also been a boost to New Hampshire’s economy.

American Action Fund was one of several organizations fighting for this common sense policy. Matt Soss, American Action Fund’s Field Manager for New Hampshire wrote in an email, “Currently, 26 states recognize this basic right, and it’s time for New Hampshire to catch up. On top of that, job growth has increased 16% in Right to Work states over the past decade according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.”

Unions have long been a major funding source for Democrat politicians and left-wing causes. It is no surprise that the union bosses pulled out all the stops to crush any effort to strip them of their power to force Granite Staters to pay them.

The final vote on House Bill 238 was 200 to 180.
