South Carolina Teases Taxpayers and Ramps Up Spending by $1.6 Billion

Last week, American Action Fund delivered 55,000 petitions to South Carolina lawmakers, demanding they repeal the state income tax.
South Carolina’s income tax is the highest in the Southeast, stripping a whopping 6.2% from hardworking families. As most pro-liberty Americans understand, income taxes discourage hard work and increase dependence on government programs.
Perhaps that is why just this week, the Columbia establishment renewed their support for:
Obscene materials in local libraries
Government-funded climate alarmism
DEI training for magistrates
COVID vaccine mandates for children as young as 5
Gummy bear statues and erotic art
The budget proposal approved this week increases state spending by $1.6 billion since last year’s budget. Establishment lawmakers even refused to accept a 10 cent reduction in spending. They wouldn’t even cut a dime!
As legislators continue their big government spending spree, they are teasing South Carolinians with a laughable 0.20% income tax reduction. Somehow they seem to think that one-fifth of one percent is enough to appease their constituents while the politicians fund their pet pork projects.
While other states are moving toward eliminating income taxes and fostering economic growth, South Carolina leaders are stalling with weak proposals that fail to deliver real relief.
South Carolina families, small businesses, and job creators deserve better.
It’s time for lawmakers to stop making excuses and start taking action.
