Power to the Parents: Universal School Choice

By AAF | Sep 12, 2024

The state is a monopoly on violence. It was never meant to oversee and central plan education in society. Despite billions of tax dollars spent on the creation of the Department of Education and the passing of federal legislation such as the No Child Left Behind Act, the standards and quality of education declined, with the result being the suffering and indoctrination of our Nation’s youth. The lack of competition prevents real choice for parents, and Universal School Choice allows them to make the best decision regarding their children’s education

Under this policy, parents are allotted a set amount of funds, usually through a voucher program or an education savings account, from which they can utilize the funds and choose how they facilitate their children’s education. Under a universal school choice model, this could come in the form of paying for private/religious school tuition, moving their child to another school within the public system, tutoring programs, or instructional materials that parents would not be able to afford without access to the funding that they are forced to pay to the state via taxation. In essence, the money follows the student, as parents would be free to use their education tax dollars however they see fit for the benefit of their children, providing them with a form of genuine competitive choice and raising the quality of education.

The Universal School Choice model has been tremendously successful, and American Action Fund is fighting daily to expand this policy to every state for the best interest of our Nation’s youth. With success in states like West Virginia, Missouri, and Arizona, our National Coalition of Liberty Legislators are on the front lines of the battle against government intrusion into the decisions parents make for their children. School Choice funds students, not systems, and we stand firmly on the principle of standing up for education over indoctrination.
