Liberty Champions CRUSH Political Establishment in Wyoming

By AAF | Aug 21, 2024

Sick of the big government status quo, citizens across Wyoming sent a bold message to the political establishment on Tuesday: “We overwhelmingly stand for liberty and expect you to do the same!”

In a state with only 62 state house districts, 10 RINO incumbents lost, 10 pro-liberty candidates defended their seats or won open seats, and another 9 conservatives won without a challenger. Nearly 20% of the Republican majority lost their reelection campaigns to more conservative candidates and pro-liberty politicians will now hold almost 40% of the seats in the Wyoming House of Representatives.

Speaker of the House Albert Sommers, the most powerful politician in the Wyoming House of Representatives, lost his bid for state senate to pro-liberty candidate Laura Taliaferro Pearson.

Committee chairmen David Northrup and Dan Zwonitzer also fell to liberty warriors Tuesday night.

In addition to the already massive blow to the establishment, two other incumbents are in virtual ties as their election results hinge on a recount. Big government republican and member of legislative leadership Landon Brown trails pro-liberty candidate Exie Brown by 12 votes.

Making matters worse for Cowboy State RINOS, eight pro-liberty incumbents won reelection and three more pro-liberty candidates advanced in open seats.

Wyoming has long been a republican stronghold, but conservative priorities like school choice, property tax relief, and ending deadly “gun free” zones often get pushed aside for the establishment’s priorities. Tuesday’s election results highlight the general public’s increasing distaste for establishment politics and preference for freedom as displayed by the rapidly growing liberty movement in state legislatures.

Further underscoring this message is the fact that legislative leadership is more vulnerable to challengers than ever before.

In Wyoming, it was Speaker Sommers and several of his committee chairs. In West Virginia, it was Senate President Craig Blair. In Idaho, it was Senate President Pro Tempore Chuck Winder who attributed his defeat explicitly to the liberty movement. In Ohio, Speaker of the House Jason Stephens held on to his seat but may lose the gavel next session due to the victories won by conservative challengers.

There is a liberty wave flooding state legislatures across the country leaving the establishment gasping for air and scrambling to respond. There is no doubt the establishment is already scheming, so the liberty movement must enjoy today’s wins and prepare for what’s to come.
