The Socialist Land Grab in Midwest America

By AAF | Sep 17, 2024

Using government force to confiscate private property is terrible.

Using that power to benefit a private company is worse.

Giving federal subsidies to a private company is also awful.

Doing all of those things in the service of a socialist environmental agenda is criminal.

That is exactly what is happening today in the Midwest.

A private company is convincing state governments to use their eminent domain power to steal land from their citizens and give it to the company. In return, the company plans to use billions of dollars in federal tax credits to build a Green New Deal carbon capture pipeline.

The private company, Summit Carbon Solutions, is on a mission to build a CO2 pipeline stretching throughout North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska.

Unsurprisingly, this has met fierce opposition from people who simply want their land to be left alone. South Dakota farmer Craig Schaunamand said, “Eminent domain should not be used for a private company’s gain.”

This seems common sense, but the governments in those five states are working to help Summit accomplish its goals.

In response to the Iowa Utilities Commission’s decision to authorize Summit to use eminent domain, citizens and even some politicians in Iowa filed a lawsuit hoping to overturn it.

In South Dakota, citizens will have to decide whether or not to approve Senate Bill 201, which would supersede local authorities who want to regulate the pipeline.

Members of American Action Fund’s Hazlitt Coalition in South Dakota are already making plans to stop this property theft from occurring.

“It amazes me that anyone finds it acceptable to allow a private company to take people’s property to advance a woke agenda,” said Rep. Karla Lems (R-SD). “This unconstitutional land grab is an affront to South Dakota values, and we aren’t going to stand for it!”

American Action Fund confirmed this is one of their top priorities in South Dakota.

Anthony Mirzayants, field manager with American Action Fund, said, “It is bad enough that the government takes peoples’ land against their will. Now they are doing it for the benefit of a private company, and it’s disgusting.”

American Action Fund is committed to preserving property rights in states nationwide and is actively working to mobilize citizens in South Dakota for this fight.
