Praising Heroes and Exposing Tyrants: American Action Fund’s Legislative Accountability Team is Hard at Work

The legislative season has kicked off with dozens of legislatures gaveling in over the last two weeks for their 2025 legislative sessions. The American Action Fund team is fully engaged, and the machine is running at high speed.

Our Legislative Analysis department is working diligently on legislative accountability and support efforts, which includes helping equip our Hazlitt Coalition members for battle, providing the ammunition needed to be inside champions and doing performance evaluations to make sure legislators are answerable to their election promises.

Recently, we had dozens of legislators sit for our Legislative Battle Training with our expert parliamentarian. This critical training equips liberty legislators with the tools to fight key battles under the dome.

Our expert bill analysis team – with former legislators – is already sifting through bills introduced across the country. The team has already reviewed over 1000 pieces of legislation across dozens of states with the legislative season only a couple weeks old.

Beside reviewing bills, our crew is geared up ready to score votes throughout legislatures coast-to-coast for our national Scorecard program launched last year. Scorecards give a report card of exactly how legislators are executing on the fight for liberty. This year, we are moving to double the amount of states scored – stay tuned.

Additionally, the keen eye of our staff has helped craft bills like School Choice, Eminent Domain repeal and reining in bureaucratic regulation. We produced a number of model bills for our Hazlitt members to sponsor and push in their legislatures. There is also a repository of hundreds of pro-liberty bills at the fingertips of legislators to push even more freedom reforms.

When we bring the legislative efforts together with our Field Managers who are working hand-in-glove with our Hazlitt members, we are able to pass freedom reforms as we build Lighthouse States throughout the country.
