The staff at American Action Fund and Young Americans for Liberty are more than just political operatives; they started as activists. This week, we’re excited to highlight one of our staff members: Aaron Yates.
Over the past decade, Aaron played an instrumental role in campaigns for a variety of candidates and organizations, but he got his start like many other liberty activists. In college, Aaron worked as a volunteer and organizer for Rand Paul’s run for the U.S. Senate in 2009. Aaron was a point of contact in Central Kentucky for Fayette and Madison counties and was also the President of Students for Rand Paul at Eastern Kentucky University.
His work at that opportunity earned him some paid roles, including Rand Paul’s general election and Ron Paul’s 2012 Presidential campaigns. As the Ron Paul campaign wore down, Aaron returned to Kentucky, where his father was undergoing treatment for Leukemia, during which time he was asked to lead another volunteer opportunity. So Aaron started spending his early mornings visiting his father, and then would spend the rest of the day as the volunteer Political Director in charge of Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts for Thomas Massie’s initial primary race.
Over fifteen years in politics, Aaron has built a solid background in caucus operations, campaigns, grassroots mobilization, and more. He worked elections at every level, ran his own company, and successfully lobbied for the passage of Constitutional Carry in numerous states, including, but not limited to Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee. Despite his extensive resume, like most of the staff at American Action Fund he is still an activist fighting for the principles of liberty he holds dear.
Aaron still goes to events for friendly organizations and candidates. He volunteers and attends lobbying days at the Capitol in both personal and professional capacities. He worked with numerous organizations during COVID lockdowns and is a friend, ally, and volunteer door knocker for Commonwealth Education Opportunities in their school choice fights.
While Aaron has worked in politics at almost every level, Presidential, U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress, Governor, etc. at the end of the day, he is a citizen activist, contributing time and talent in the fight for the future of our country.
