Liberty Forces Break the Democrat Stranglehold in Minnesota

On a topsy-turvy election night, Minnesota put up a giant stop sign for leftists in control of the legislature. Leading up to the election, Democrats had a 70-64 stranglehold on the House, but thanks to the efforts of liberty activists and groups, Minnesota will move from complete trifecta Democrat control to a 67-67 split between Republicans and Democrats.

Across Minnesota, 3 liberal Democrat incumbents went down in flames this fall. Plus at least 12 leftist Democrats trying to take out Republicans were stopped. This is significant as it ensures that Republicans now have the power to stop any radical leftist proposal the Democrats want to advance. The big question is – will the incoming Republican class of House members be up to the task?

Some of the bright spots on election night were the election of Tom Dippel and Drew Roach to the State House. Both Dippel and Roach filled out our American Action Fund candidate surveys pledging to vote for great pro-liberty policies. With their additions, this doubles the Hazlitt Coalition members in Minnesota adding to senators Lieske and Wesenberg.

These legislators have to build on the legacy of Liberty Legend Rep. Erik Mortensen who was an absolute warrior for liberty in Minnesota and set the standard for a liberty legislator. He forced numerous votes putting his colleagues on the record and exposing their willingness to vote for bigger government. Moreover, he led the efforts as an inside champion as an organizing force for the grassroots on the outside.

Only time will tell whether the growing coalition in Minnesota will raise the bar and fight like junkyard dogs in defense of liberty or if they will continue allowing the state to be overrun by socialist ideologies.

The upper midwest has gained particular attention in recent months due to the presidential election and the addition of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to the Democrat ticket for Vice President. One might think Tim Walz would be an asset to Minnesota electorally but he proved to be a drag – not only in Minnesota but nationally.

Liberty groups in Minnesota exposed the disastrous policies of the Democrats led by liberal Governor Tim Walz. The Democrats hiked the gas tax and indexed it to inflation setting it on auto-pilot increases to skyrocket forever! From delivery fees to spending an $18 BILLION DOLLAR surplus, Minnesota Democrats instituted one bad idea after another.

But among the worst was passing Minnesota’s version of the Green New Deal requiring the energy grid to be carbon free by the year 2040. Meanwhile, California has this benchmark for the year 2045.

That’s right, Minnesota Democrats are crazier than those in California!

Young Americans for Liberty recruited door knockers that knocked on tens of thousands of doors to hold radical Minnesota Democrats accountable for their socialist policies.

It’s these critical efforts that helped stop the fast march of socialism by Governor Tim Walz and the Progressive Democrats. The results of Tuesday’s election send a BOOMING message that the push for higher taxes, burdensome business regulations, and taking away people’s liberty will not be tolerated.

Now the real fight begins to make sure the House Republicans stand in the gap to protect our liberties and push the Liberty Agenda in the Minnesota legislature.
