Savannah Maddox: Fighting for Liberty in Kentucky

By AAF | Sep 25, 2024

In 2018 when the Hazlitt Coalition was just starting, Representative Savannah Maddox of Kentucky was elected, becoming an early member of AAF’s Hazlitt Coalition. At the time there was a big excitement about the future of the country with liberty legislators elected, but nobody was prepared for the changes ahead.

Savannah Maddox came in as a mother and wife from northern Kentucky who was frustrated with the direction our country was going, particularly on civil liberties. When she was sworn in in 2019, she didn’t waste any time getting to work.

In her first year, Savannah Maddox made quite a splash, passing a clean Constitutional Carry Bill, making Kentucky one of the earliest states to pass this pro-gun piece of legislation that allowed law-abiding citizens to carry concealed (Kentucky already had open carry) without a permit.

Then, a few weeks later Maddox had her second key piece of legislation signed which codified Campus Free Speech, an issue that had been elevated by some egregious overreach by schools across the Commonwealth.

In 2019, Maddox set a high bar for what Hazlitt Members could achieve, and her success has drawn many more members to the fight in Kentucky and in surrounding states.

In Frankfort, Maddox continues to work on issues related to healthcare freedom and reigning in government overreach post-lockdown. She also signed onto numerous pro-liberty bills introduced by other Kentucky Hazlitt members.  In addition, Maddox has made herself a resource both to Young Americans for Liberty, where she recently spoke at YALCON24, and American Action Fund where she has helped promote gun rights issues to activists across the country.

During her speech at YALCON24, Maddox boldly spoke of the fight against the political establishment. “[The members of the uniparty] are not driven by the principles of limited government. They are driven solely by the quest to hold onto power.”

Freedom-loving patriots in Kentucky know they can count on Rep. Savannah Maddox to be a stalwart defender of their liberties. In Maddox’s words, “We’re going to continue fighting no matter what new schemes are thrown at us because we really believe in the mission of reducing the size of government.”
