What Happens When an Army Ranger Joins the Fight for Liberty?

They say you should never judge a book by its cover, and nobody embodies that principle better than South Carolina Representative Thomas Beach. Rep. Beach is a principled, pro-liberty vote that may be among the nicest people in the Hazlitt Coalition. Many people would just assume that he’s the kind of politician elected by charming everyone with his generally calm demeanor. But behind the veneer, there’s a warrior, a former Army Ranger, a father and family man, and a politician who walks into the Capitol only to have leadership try to beat him down and break him.
So it should come as no surprise that the guy who looks unassuming but is a fierce and firm presence in Columbia was so influential in the passage of Constitutional Carry just a few months back. When Rep. Beach came into office a couple of years back, he ran on the Second Amendment, pledging to carry on the fight for Constitutional Carry that had been waged in South Carolina for many years by former Representative and Hazlitt member Jonathan Hill. Beach’s plan immediately drew the ire of “Republican” leadership that regularly attacked, primaried, and threw out of caucus anybody who wasn’t left of John McCain and Lindsey Graham.
Yet despite their attempts to belittle, embarrass, and break Rep. Beach, he held the line and beat back bad bills and amendments until a decent Constitutional Carry bill passed in South Carolina. And with inflation and cost of living on the rise, Rep. Beach continues to fight against inflated budgets and excessive tax and spend policies.

That would be a great end to the story, but that’s not what the Hazlitt Coalition, American Action Fund, or Young Americans for Liberty is about. We’re not here to sign a bill and go home, and neither is Representative Thomas Beach, who coming off victory, is more committed to fighting for lower taxes, limited government, gun rights, and more.
When you need somebody who has the guts to stand up to perhaps one of the most liberal “Republican-controlled” legislatures in the country, a principled Army Ranger is a good friend to have, and we are very lucky to have Representative Thomas Beach on our side.
